Resumen de Using Tasks to Enhance Oral Proficiency in a Multilingual Working Environment

  • Being both a teacher of business English and an instructor in oral performance development at university level I have often had the opportunity to observe how challenging it is for students to achieve good results in oral performance. It becomes even more so when they are employed and requested to perform in multicultural and multilingual environments. Multilingualism and multiculturality are distinctive features of today’s globalised business and economies. Consequently, business graduates need to be fully equipped with valid discourse coping strategies to be effective when engaging in oral transactions. Well-chosen communication tasks deliver major support for oral performance enhancement as they encourage meaningful acquisition of strategies useful in the multilingual workplace.
