    ¿Cómo se pasa del quinquillero al quinqui? ¿Qué tránsito cultural se marca en el acortamiento de esta palabra? ¿Son los quinquis hijos de aquellos que trabajaron la quincalla? ¿Qué nos dicen los quinqui(llero)s sobre el paso de una economía rural y agraria desde su aparición en la prensa a mediados del siglo XIX hasta el desarrollismo tecnócrata, el desempleo y las UVAs? El quinqui reaparece una y otra vez en los discursos de orden social en España para señalar a las formas subjetivas y laborales que disienten de la colectividad mainstream. Este trabajo investiga la historia conceptual del quinqui de antes de los años [19]80, proponiendo como hipótesis que son los diferentes quinquis históricos los que sientan las condiciones discursivas y materiales del conocido quinqui ochentero, joven y suburbano. A partir de archivos de prensa del siglo XIX y principios del XX y siguiendo también el periodismo sensacionalista y de investigación de los años sesenta y setenta, este artículo busca presentar la arqueología de la operación biopolítica de exclusión y disciplina que se configura en torno al significante “quinqui” y sus variantes, atendiendo a sus dimensiones campestre, étnica y laboral en el ámbito del discurso público.

    How do you go from the quinquillero to the quinqui? What cultural transit is marked in the shortening of this word? Are quinquis the children of those who worked with quincalla? What do quinqui(llero)s tell us about the turning of a rural and agrarian economy to the Spanish technocratic developmentalism, its consequent unemployment and the UVAs? The quinqui reappears again and again in social discourses in Spain to signal the subjective and labor forms that dissent from mainstream collectivity. This paper investigates the conceptual history of the quinqui before the 1980s, proposing as its main hypothesis that it is in these historical quinquis that we find the discursive and material roots of the young and suburban quinqui. Following press files of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and also sensationalist articles of the sixties and seventies, as well as some investigative textual works, this article seeks to present the archeology of the disciplinary biopolitical operation of exclusion that is configured around the significant “quinqui” and its variants, taking into account its rural, ethnic and labor dimensions within public discourse.
