Resumen de Libertà religiosa e Covid-19 in Vaticano e nell’azione della Santa Sede

Tras algunas observaciones preliminares sobre el vínculo indisoluble que existe entre el Estado de la Ciudad del Vaticano y la Santa Sede, el artículo analiza, en primer lugar, las medidas tomadas por las autoridades vaticanas para prevenir y contrarrestar los riesgos de contagio dentro del Estado. A continuación, se centra en las decisiones del Papa Francisco y la Curia Romana concernientes al ejercicio del culto público, que ha sufrido severas limitaciones debido a la emergencia pandémica -las oraciones y ritos de Pascua también se celebraron en la Basílica de S. Pedro sin la presencia del pueblo-, en plena sintonía con las medidas ya adoptadas por el Gobierno italiano, que habían provocado algunas tensiones con la Conferencia Episcopal italiana. Por último, el autor desarrolla algunas observaciones finales sobre la incidencia de las decisiones de la Santa Sede en la tutela del derecho de libertad religiosa.

After some preliminary remarks about the complex nature of the relationship between the Vatican City-State and the Holy See, the essay first examines the measures taken by the Vatican authorities in order to tackle and contrast the Covid-19 pandemic within the State walls. Then it focuses on the acts of Pope Francis and the Holy See concerning the public exercise of divine worship. In compliance with the strong measures adopted by the Italian Government to face the sanitary emergency, public worship was heavily restricted, restrictions concerning public prayers and rites and spreading also to the Easter Mass, that was celebrated without the presence of the people, a situation that caused some tension with the Italian Conference of Bishops. In the end the author draws some conclusive remarks on the impact of the action of the Holy See over the theory and practice of religious freedom.
