    A partir de una relectura actual de la conferencia de Santayana La tradición gentil en la fi losofía americana, el artículo aborda la relación ambivalente de la fi losofía con la herencia fi losófi ca, por un lado, y con la institucionalización de la fi losofía, por otro. Medita así mismo sobre el papel que cumplen en la fi losofía el desasimiento, la culpa y el egotismo. Finalmente, en relación al puritanismo, al trascendentalismo y al naturalismo, se pregunta si podemos realmente deshacernos del querido yo, dado que puede detectar el sujeto bajo lo que llamamos el otro, las identidades, incluso el antiespecismo. La gran paradoja de la fi losofía es que se hace desde el yo, porque no hay otro lugar desde el que pensar

    From revisiting Santayana’s conference “The Genteel Tradition in American Philosophy”, this paper deals with the ambivalent relationship of philosophy with the philosophical inheritance, on the one hand, and with the institutionalization of philosophy, on the other. It also meditates on the role that detachment, guilt and egotism play in philosophy. Finally, in relation to Puritanism, Transcendentalism and Naturalism, it asks if we can really get rid of the beloved I. For we can detect the subject under what we name the other, the identities, and even the antispecism. Th e great paradox of philosophy is that it is made from the self, because there is no other place from which to think.
