Resumen de Canalejas, el vapor y la Armada: 1850-1855

  El fracaso de la Revolución Industrial en España supondrá un escollo para la Armada en lo relacionado con el empleo del vapor como fuerza motriz en los buques. Ya es triste que la adversidad que supone la trágica primera guerra civil en la Edad Contemporánea (en este caso la primera guerra carlista, 1833-1840), suponga un acicate para que el gobierno de la nación tome la iniciativa de formar a profesionales españoles, al objeto de no de pender de técnicos y maquinistas extranjeros. En esta coyuntura se verá inmerso un joven e inquieto catalán, José Canalejas Casas, que se convertirá en aspirante al profesorado de la Escuela de Maquinistas en Ferrol y posteriormente ocupará la dirección interina de la Factoría de Máquinas de Vapor también en Ferrol. Hechos que tendrán lugar bajo “la década moderada (1845-1855)” en el periodo de Isabel II (1833-1868). Asimismo nacerán en la ciudad naval dos hijos de Canalejas: el primero de ellos, José María Canalejas Méndez se convertirá en Presidente del Consejo de Ministros (9 de febrero de 1910 a 12 de noviembre de 1912).

  The failure of the Industrial Revolution in Spain will be a stumbling block for the Navy in relation to the use of steam as a driving force on ships. It is sad that the adversity of the tragic first civil war in the Contemporary Age (in this case the first Carlist war 1833- 1840), is an incentive for the legitimate government of the nation to take the initiative to train Spanish professionals, in order not to depend on foreign technicians and machinists. At this juncture a young and restless Catalan, José Canalejas Casas, will be immersed, who will become an aspiring teacher of the School of Machinists in Ferrol and later will occupy the interim direction of the Steam Engine Factory also in Ferrol. Events that will take place under “the moderate decade (1845-1855)” in the period of Elizabeth II (1833- 1868). Likewise, two sons of Canalejas will be born in the naval city, the first of them, José María Canalejas Méndez will become President of the Council of Ministers (February 9, 1910 to November 12, 1912).
