    Gallaecia y Galicia son dos circunscripciones históricas (durante mucho tiempo paralelas, según qué siglos) que frecuentemente han venido siendo confundidas, tanto en la traducción de los textos árabes, a pesar de que los autores musulmanes conocieron bien la diferencia entre el todo y la parte (Yilliqiyya y Galisiyya, ambas reducidas a ‘Galicia’, hasta no hace muchos años), como en los textos latinos, a pesar de que una adecuada contextualización de las noticias históricas puede permitir establecer con claridad, en no pocas ocasiones, la diferencia entrambos territorios homónimos, y visibilizar, en consecuencia, el largo declive de la centenaria Gallaecia y el auge incontenible de la definitiva Galicia.

    Gallaecia and Galicia are two historical regions (covering more or less the same area for a long time, depending on the century) that have often come to be confused with one another, both in the translations of Arabic texts, despite the fact that Muslim authors knew well the difference between the whole and the part, (Yilliqiyya and Galisiyya, both reduced to «Galicia» until a few years ago), as in the case of the authors of Latin texts, despite the fact that an adequate contextualization of the historical information could allow us to clearly establish the difference, in quite a few instances, between both of these homonymous territories, and in this way to make visible the long decline of the centuries old Gallaecia and the uncontainable growth of the definitive Galicia.
