  • Resumen
    • An increasing volume of computer‐based educational software has been introduced to the market in Japan, although it has failed to attain a favourable reputation. The author has selected at random several available software programs and assessed their quality according to the evaluation chart he has developed. The assessment process consisted of item‐by‐item inspection of the samples against a checklist by experienced teachers (called ‘reviewers’ herein) and a comprehensive review. After analysing the results thus obtained, the author was able to pinpoint some characteristics of the generally available educational computer software. After these features were identified, the programs were further analysed to assess their learning and teaching efficiency.
