  • Resumen
    • The HyperCard Intelligent Training System (HITS) combines the benefits of using artificial intelligence techniques and HyperCard, to produce a novel approach to providing computer‐based training (CBT). This paper looks at the advantages of intelligent training systems over conventional CBT and examines the further bonuses of the HITS approach: ‘chunking’ of knowledge and the division of authoring into subject expertise and course design. HITS provides a set of tools which allows authors to utilize skills which they already have and avoids the need for them to learn any kind of programming language. Domain experts write books of material and teachers design syllabi, and no fixed sequence of presentation need be determined in advance as the system builds courses, tailored to individuals, dynamically This leads to efficient use of material and rapid authoring. The paper includes a discussion of the problem of programming in HyperCard, and some suggestions are made as to improvements which could be made.
