    El presente artículo analiza los convencionalismos y recursos visuales utilizados en las leyendas de santos guerreros, basados en las fuentes del Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento con la finalidad de ofrecer una mayor comprensión del fenómeno de la sacralización de la guerra y la función de las imágenes de santos caballeros en el ámbito hispánico. Son numerosos los ejemplos en los que los santos guerreros aparecen reiteradamente amparando a los ejércitos cristianos o destrozando a las huestes enemigas. En muchos de estos casos, algunos de los elementos significantes utilizados presentan una evidente asociación con las grandes gestas del Antiguo Testamento, conformándose como recurrentes en la tradición visual.

    This article analyzes the conventionalities and visual resources used in the legends of holy warriors, based on the sources of the Old and New Testaments in order to offer a better understanding of the phenomenon of the sacralization of war and the function of the images of holy knights in the Hispanic context. There are many examples in which the holy warriors repeatedly appear to protect the Christian armies or to destroy the enemy hosts. In many of these cases, some of the significant elements used present an evident association with the great deeds of the Old Testament, conforming as recurrent in the visual tradition
