    En este trabajo se trata de delinear por primera vez las características esenciales de Canciones Tristes, la ciudad imaginaria creada por el escritor argentino Rodrigo Fresán, analizando el contexto cultural en el que se inserta la gestación de este espacio y teniendo en debida cuenta los precedentes ilustres y las nuevas versiones de las ciudadelas literarias. Tras analizar todas las apariciones de Canciones Tristes en las obras de Fresán, se intenta establecer una conexión entre éstas y la identidad personal del mismo escritor argentino para encontrar un posible signo de continuidad entre las ciudades de la identidad fundadas durante el Boom y este “nuevo” espacio literario, que se presenta como un lugar volátil, en larga medida contaminado por la cultura pop e indeleblemente marcado por una argentinidad nostálgica y problemática.

    This paper aims at describing the representation of Canciones Tristes, the fictional town created by the Argentine writer Rodrigo Fresán, starting with the analysis of the cultural context in which it has been created and considering other famous examples of fictional cities in the past. After a brief review of the appearances of Canciones Tristes in Fresan’s works, we try to establish a connection between the creation of this space and the identity of Fresán himself. This attempt to represent Latin America identity by a fictional city helps us to define a relationship between the famous towns created during the so-called Latin American Boom and Canciones Tristes, which, in the end, can be described as a unstable and flexible space, largely contaminated by pop culture and by the nostalgic and problematic memory of Argentina.
