The Upper Pliensbachian units (Cerro del Pez & Barahona Fms) studied in the northest margin of the Iberian Chain, has shown the existence of a particular carbonate facies with iron ooids, never described before in this area nor at this age. The reduced thickness of these formations, the proximity to normal faults and the presence of iron oolitic facies are interpreted as related to a Lower Jurassic paleogeographic high. This work favours a marine origin of the genesis of the iron ooids.
