Bauxites and lateritie clays occur in the Linking Zone (Iberian Chain) and in the Catalan Coastal Chain. These materials probably were developed during the barremian-aptian period due to the existence of a humid and warm climate, a low altitude location and an extensive tectonic context during the upper Jurassic-lower Cretaceous rifting phase. The rare elements analyses, obtained by neutronic activation, indicate that only the reworked Barremian palaeosoils served as precursor material for the development of these bauxites, thereby ruling out other possible sources such as the intact palaeosoils profiles.
