Resumen de El delta de Iznatoraf y las turbiditas de la Fm Arenas del Guadalquivir

Wenceslao Martínez del Olmo, C. Díaz Merino

  • In the nort-eastern end of the Guadalquivir marine miocene foreland basin (Jaén province, SE Spain), the spatial relationship between the turbidites of the Upper Miocene Gualdalquivir sands Fm, cropping out at the Ubeda and Baeza hills, and a deltaic slope, partially preserved in the Iznatoraf isolated hill, can be analysed through outcrop observation. The observed field relationships combined with regional data provided by previous petroleum exploration allow to: I) Estimate the depositional paleodepth of the turbidite basin and the length of zone of sediment bypass between the prograding slope and the proximal end of the turbidite deposits. 2) Infer the timing of the NorthBetic strait closure. 3) Distinguish and evaluate the influence of tectonic vs. non-tectonic events on a marine foreland basin. 4) Estimate the amount of uplift experienced by the mentioned area. 5) Explain the lateral shift of the successive turbidite systems and the location of the Pliocene-Quaternary depocenter.
