  • The Tithonian of the marginal (western) areas of the Iberian Basin consists of three third order depositional sequences. The Tithonian-1 and Tithonian-2 Sequences (lower Tithonian) are formed by a thin TST and a thicker HST and they grade basinwards (to the east) to the outer ramp micrites of the Loriguilla and Polpis formations. The Tithonian-3 Sequence (with Anchispirocyclina lusitanica) has been tentatively correlated to the Sequence-1 defined in the shallow carbonate platform developed in the eastermost part of the Iberian Basin (Maestrat sedimentary domain) onwards from the Middle Tithonian.
