  • The depositional architecture observed in the Trucíos area of northern Spain (Basque-Cantabrian Basin) aids in our understanding of the depositional history and tectonic control of the AptianAlbian sequences. The stratigraphic record of the area provides evidence for three main constructional phases (alocycles). The first phase of the late Aptian to early Albian is here described and displays a three-step pattern of sedimentation. First, active tectonism creates highs and troughs linked to source area rejuvenation. This is followed by accentuated subsidence, tied to carbonate aggradational systems, and finally subsidence slows down and depositional systems prograde. This sedimentary pattern is related to active tectonism and rifting with strike-slipe influence in the context of the Europe-lberia plate relationships.
