  En un mundo en el que los retos son globales, la única manera de enfrentarlos es desde una perspectiva de “ciudadanía global”. La universidad no puede limitar sus objetivos a la formación de profesionales técnicamente competentes: si estos futuros profesionales carecen de capacidad de análisis crítico, si no tienen las habilidades para percibir cómo sus decisiones influirán en su entorno, si no han desarrollado destrezas para cambiarlo, incluso si no han ejercitado un cierto grado de sensibilidad y conciencia social, serán los gestores de una sociedad fracasada. El aprendizaje-servicio es una metodología de enseñanza-aprendizaje que combina una mejor adquisición de conocimientos teóricos y de habilidades y competencias profesionales con un desarrollo de la capacidad para tomar conciencia de la realidad, entenderla, analizarla, saber intervenir en ella e, incluso, comprometerse a transformarla. Necesitamos grandes profesionales capaces de mejorar el mundo y, para conseguirlo, necesitamos que la universidad apueste por formarlos integralmente.

  In a world of global challenges, the only way to face them is with a “global citizenship” perspective. Higher Education cannot limit its objectives to training technically competent professionals: if these professionals-to-be lack the capacity of critical analysis, if they do not have the skills to perceive how their decisions will influence their environment, if they have not developed skills to change it, and, moreover, if they have not exercised a certain degree of sensitivity and social awareness, they will be the leaders of a failed society. Service-Learning is a teaching-learning methodology that combines a better acquisition of theoretical knowledge, plus professional skills and competences, with the development of the ability to become aware, understand and analyze reality, learn how to intervene, and, finally, commit to transform it. We need great professionals capable of improving the world and, to achieve this, we need universities to bet on training them comprehensively.
