This article describes the works of conservation and restoration of two mural paintings made with the technique known as “marouflage”: La Tarde, by Máximo Juderías Caballero, belonging to the Cerralbo Museum in Madrid, and Selene, by the painter José María Brel y Giral, in the Museo Nacional de Cerámica y Artes Suntuarias González Martí, Valencia. Both interventions were carried out by the IPCE in 2018. The “marouflage” technique, whose french term is difficult to translate into Spanish or English, defines a process of creation of mural painting whose work is made previously on canvas, nailed to a frame. Afterwards, they are adhered to the wall or another rigid surface, where they are retouched.
