    En el siglo XVI se realiza la primera serie de litografías de las Maravillas del mundo. En ellas se representan las arquitecturas más emblemáticas de la Antigüedad. Pero en la relativa a las pirámides de Egipto se esconde un tipo iconográfico que pasa desapercibido si no se conocen las fuentes historiográficas griegas. Alude a Rhodopis, la primera Cenicienta, y su papel clave en la construcción de las pirámides. Maarten Van Heemskerck y Philips Galle nos guían hasta los historiadores clásicos Heródoto y Estrabón a través de la iconografía, para hacernos conocedores de la historia de la joven Rhodopis, una joven griega cuyo zapato toma un águila y deja caer en el regazo del faraón egipcio. Desde ese momento, el faraón buscará a la joven hasta encontrarla y desposarse con ella. Este tipo iconográfico tiene continuidad y consta de esquema compositivo, atributos y un icono clave: el águila con la sandalia.

    In the 16th century the first series of lithographs of the Wonders of the world is made. They represent the most emblematic architectures of Antiquity. But in the relative one to the pyramids of Egypt hides an iconographic type that goes unnoticed if the Greek historiographic sources are not known. It refers to Rhodopis, the first Cinderella, and her key role in the construction of the pyramids. Maarten Van Heemskerck and Philips Galle guide us to the classic historians Herodotus and Strabo through iconography, to make us aware of the history of the young Rhodopis, a young Greek woman whose shoe takes an eagle and drops it in the lap of the Egyptian pharaoh. From that moment, the pharaoh will look for the young woman until he finds her and marries her. This iconographic type has continuity and consists of a compositional scheme, attributes and a key icon: the eagle with the sandal.
