    A pesar de que se concentra principalmente en varias regiones, la piratería marítima sigue constituyendo hoy en día una amenaza que afecta a toda la sociedad internacional, en tanto en cuanto repercute directamente en el transporte marítimo, que representa el 90% del total del comercio internacional. Por tanto, la cooperación en materia de seguridad debería ser el camino a seguir en la lucha contra este fenómeno, y el éxito en la contención de la piratería en las costas somalíes debe inspirar futuras acciones en otras zonas donde la piratería es una amenaza constante, como el golfo de Guinea o el Sudeste Asiático. En este documento se propone un estudio comparativo y actual de la piratería marítima en las principales zonas donde predomina, haciendo especial hincapié en los efectos económicos que acarrea y en la necesidad de enfrentarlos de manera conjunta entre estados y organizaciones internacionales.

    Despite being mainly gathered in several regions, maritime piracy keeps being a threat that affects all the international society, since it has effects on the maritime transport, which represents 90% of the international trade. Therefore, the security cooperation should be the way to go when fighting against this phenomenon, and the successful containment of piracy at Somali coasts must inspire future actions in other areas where the piracy is a constant threat, such as the Guinea Gulf or Southeast Asia. In this paper it is proposed a comparative and current study of the maritime piracy in the areas where it predominates, focusing on the economic effects that it generates and on the necessity of approaching them jointly by states and international organizations.
