Se describe la epidemiología de los enfermos críticos COVID-19 atendidos en las unidades de cuidados intensivos (UCIs) de las Islas Baleares durante la primera fase de la pandemia del virus SARS-CoV-2.Un total de 175 pacientes COVID-19 fueron atendidos en las UCIs de 8 centros hospitalarios públicos y privados entre el 6 de Marzo y Junio de 2020. La mayoría de los pacientes (83%) necesitaron tratamiento con ventilación mecánica invasiva. La mortalidad en UCI fue del 27%. Se describen las complicaciones más graves y los tratamientos más complejos utilizados.Comento diversos aspectos relacionados con la asistencia prestada a dichos pacientes críticos, como los recursos materiales, el personal sanitario, el tratamiento médico y la relación con las familias de dichos enfermos.
It describes the epidemiology of critically ill COVID-19s treated in intensive care units (UCIs) of the Balearic Islands during the first phase of the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic.A total of 175 COVID-19 patients were treated at UCIs in 8 public and private hospitals between March 6 and June 2020. Most patients (83%) needed treatment with invasive mechanical ventilation. Mortality in ICU was 27%. It describes the most serious complications and the most complex treatments used.I comment on a number of aspects related to the care provided to these critical patients, such as material resources, health workers, medical treatment and the relationship with the families of these patients.
