La carta 21 de sant Agustí: La sacramentalitat de la Paraula

    Quan a Hipona el bisbe Valeri ordena Agustí prevere i li confia el ministeri de la predicació, aquest és conscient amb veritable humilitat que ell no coneix prou bé l’Escriptura. Aleshores escriu una carta al seu bisbe, la número 21, en què demana un temps de recés per estudiar el text bíblic, perquè ho ha de fer «demanant, trucant i buscant, […] és a dir, pregant, estudiant i plorant.» L’article publica la versió catalana d’aquesta carta i en fa el comentari fent veure el valor sacramental que ja en aquest moment (any 391) Agustí confereix al text sagrat.

    When Augustine was ordained by bishop Valery in Hippo and entrusted with the ministry of preaching, he was aware with true humility that his knowledge of Scripture was insufficient. He therefore wrote to his bishop a letter, number 21, in which he asked for a time of retreat to study the biblical text, because he can only do it “by asking, seeking, knocking, that is, by praying, reading, and weeping”. This article presents the Catalan version of this letter and provides a commentary on it, showing the sacramental value that at that time (the year 391) Augustine conferred on the sacred text.
