    Durante el periodo más cruento de la historia peruana republicana (1980-2000), durante el enfrentamiento entre el grupo terrorista Partido Comunista del Perú - Sendero Luminoso (PCP-SL) y el Estado peruano, se cobraron decenas de miles de vidas, en su mayoría de ciudadanos pobres y olvidados, de zonas rurales y cuyas tragedias fueron muchas veces acalladas o ignoradas, incluso por el propio Estado. Recuperar su memoria es recuperar la memoria de toda una nación, pues una historia incompleta simplemente no es tal, recuperar el rostro y nombre de estos peruanos y peruanas es una tarea aún pendiente y difícil que solo se puede lograr a fuerza de recordar, con dolor, pero también con esperanza por reivindicar su existencia. El cómic como medio y como arte, más de una vez se ha prestado a esta noble tarea, en el caso peruano la experiencia es escasa pero emblemática. Un ejemplo es Rupay. Historias gráficas de la violencia política en el Perú (1980-1984), historieta de Luis Rossel, Villar y Jesús Cossio; trabajo enfocado precisamente en este trabajo de rescate de la memoria con especial énfasis en los más olvidados; y cuyo análisis es tan importante como necesario.

    During the bloodiest period of the republican history of Peru (1980-2000), during the confrontation between the terrorist group, the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (Partido Comunista del Perú - Sendero Luminoso, PCP-SL), and the Peruvian Government, thousands of lives were lost. Most of them were the lives of poor and forgotten citizens from rural areas whose tragedies were often ignored or silenced, even by the Government. To recapture its memory is to recover the memory of a whole nation because an incomplete history is not history. To recuperate the face and name of these Peruvians is a pending and difficult task that can only be accomplished by forcing us to remember the events not only with pain but also with hope for claiming their existence. The comic as art and as a media has been used, more than once, for this noble task. In the Peruvian case, the experience is not vast, but it is emblematic. An example is Rupay, Graphic Stories of the Political Violence in Peru (Rupay. Historias gráficas de la violencia política en el Perú) (1980-1984), a comic written by Luis Rossel, Villar and Jesús Cossio; a work focused on this task of recovering the memory with a special emphasis in the most neglected and whose analysis is not only important but necessary.
