In the present article I present the results of a study developed from an ethnography, whose methodological strategies for field work were participant observation and interviews. Here I seek to reflect on the idea of the disappearance of the 'maid of old', highlighting elements that characterize a transformation in the profile and experiences of women inserted in this universe of work. Beyond the changes, I try to identify which elements still remain in the daily work of these women, especially regarding the issues of class, race, gender and generation. It is also intended to articulate the discussion to the difficult generational transition in the daily work of these women, especially those inserted in the trade union struggle of the category.

Neste trabalho busco refletir sobre a ideia do desaparecimento da ‘empregada doméstica de antigamente’, destacando elementos que caracterizam uma transformação no perfil e nas vivências das mulheres inseridas nesse universo de trabalho. Para além dessas mudanças no perfil das trabalhadoras domésticas, procuro identificar quais são os elementos e/ou práticas que ainda permanecem no cotidiano de trabalho dessas mulheres, sobretudo, no que diz respeito às questões de classe, raça, gênero e geração. Pretende-se, também, articular a problematização à difícil transição geracional no cotidiano laboral de muitas mulheres e também em relação à luta sindical da categoria, considerando a idade mais avançada de algumas das trabalhadoras domésticas no universo pesquisado.
