The Vinalopó River enters the Bajo Segura Basin by the el Pantano de Elche narrow pass where in 1632 was used to build a damp. Jiménez de Cisneros visited this place in 1910 mentioned that many years before Vilanova y Piera has proposed the Vinalopó River has other river bed hundreds of meter east of the actual one. Jiménez de Cisneros using archaeological data demostrate that the river has maintained its actual position since the neolitic (4500 years ago using the actual scales). To test the Vilanova y Piera hypotesis a Digital Elevation Model has been made which has allowed to suspect that his ideas maybe are not wrong. Before 4500 years ago the Vinalopó River could enter the Bajo Segura Basin following the river bed of the Grifo Creek.
