  • Resumen
    • Palaeontological sites in the province of Murcia have been the subject of intense studies by naturalists and palaeontologists for several decades due to their fossil wealth, excellent outcrop conditions and the completeness of fossil successions. In this sense, a biographical study on Jiménez de Cisneros and his palaeontological research in Murcia, where he lived for twenty years is presented in this paper. The geologist Daniel Jiménez de Cisneros (1863-1941), born in Caravaca de la Cruz, started his paleontological studies in his natal area. His first palaeontological notes appeared at the beginning of century XX after his discovery of Jurassic fossils in the Sierra of Gavilán, to the West of Caravaca. He was one of the the most important studious of the geology and palaeontology of the SE of Spain in that time. In this work we are reviewing only their contribution to the paleontology of the area of Murcia.
