La pandemia por COVID-19 ha afectado principalmente al colectivo de personas mayores en centros residenciales. El impacto en las esferas biológica, psicológica, social y espiritual de los mayores ha generado multitud de interrogantes éticos complejos. En este trabajo se describe la situación acontecida en un centro de mayores en la que se ponen de manifiesto los dilemas y conflictos éticos ocasionados por el desconocimiento científico sobre el comportamiento epidemiológico del virus y por la escasez de recursos para su diagnóstico y abordaje epidemiológico.
Se reflexiona sobre las implicaciones éticas de la incertidumbre en la toma de decisiones, realizando recomendaciones para afrontar en el futuro situaciones similares.
Ethical uncertainty in pandemic time: about a case Elderly people in nursing homes has been the group mainly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The impact on the biological, psychological, social and spiritual spheres of the elderly has generated many complex ethical questions. This work describes the situation that occurred in a nursing home in which the ethical dilemmas and conflicts caused by scientific ignorance about the epidemiological behavior of the virus and by the scarcity of resources for its diagnosis and epidemiological approach are revealed. Reflects on the ethical implications of uncertainty in decision-making, making recommendations to face similar situations in the future.
