En el s. XIX la Renaixença va jugar un paper molt important en la recuperació de les arts literàries en llengua vernacla tant a Catalunya com al País Valencià, encara que en aquest últim amb menys repercussió. L’èxit que experimentà el teatre culte català no va trobar el seu equivalent a València. A València, l’intent de treure la llengua del país del nucli familiar per culturitzar-la i deixar-la impresa en el gènere dramàtic no era una tasca que resultés fàcil.El Teatre Russafa de València va ser espectador principal dels intents que hi van haver en la creació d’un Teatre Valencià i de com el sainet assolia aquest títol encapçalat per l’autor Eduard Escalante. Hem fet un recorregut pels diaris de l’època que ens han descobert manifests, opinions i inquietuds del moment, que veurem repetides al llarg dels anys i ens donaran una visió de perquè el teatre valencià no va poder consolidar-se com va ocórrer al Principat.

In the 19th century, the Renaixença played a very important role in the recovery of the vernacular literary arts in both Catalonia and the Valencian Country, although in Valencia with less scope. The success of Catalan cult theater finds no equivalent in Valencia. In Valencia, the attempt to remove the language from the family nucleus, to cultivate it and leave it imprinted in the dramatic genre, was not an easy task.The Teatre Russafa in Valencia was the main spectator of the attempts that were made to create a Valencian Theater and how the sainete achieved this little led by the author Eduard Escalante. We have taken a tour of the newspapers of the time that have revealed to us manifestos, opinions and concerns of the moment which we will see repeated over the years and will give us a vision of why the valencian theater could not consolidate as it happened in the Principatily.
