    Le rapport de Charles-Albert Cingria avec la musique traduit une conception particulière du temps et de la modernité. Celle-ci s’appuie sur la perception de la permanence d’une harmonie (au sens médiéval du terme, harmonia mundi) et de la musica, art du Nombre rendu audible. Or, le nombre, c’est le rythme. La critique sévère et justifiée de l’interprétation rythmique du plain-chant restauré par Solesmes offre donc à Cingria un excellent creuset lui permettant de préciser sa réflexion musicologique mais surtout d’affirmer le credo d’une pensée esthétique originale.

    Charles-Albert Cingria’s relation to music betrays a peculiar conception of time and modernity which stands on the perception of a perennial harmony (in the medieval sense of harmonia mundi) and of musica, the art of the Number made audible. However the number is rhythm. The scathing and justified criticism of the rhythmic interpretation of the plainsong as restored by Solesmes provides then Cingria with an excellent crucible which allows him to clarify his musicological reflection but above all to assert the credo of an original aesthetic thought.
