The reasoned work of Becchetti allowed me to draw a first list of women photographers from which it was possible to start a sort of mapping of Italian “female” photography. On the one hand there is therefore the intention of mapping the beginnings of the photographers in Italy, on the other the desire to understand the dynamics that lead to the desire for economic and social independence of these women. From here the research was extended to the entire Becchetti Archive, and then to local photographic archives such as Lucca, Ancona, Milan, Pisa, Livorno. This extensive survey has shown that the relationship we find between women and photography is highly complex, articulated on multiple levels.
