  • In the context of SDG16: Peace, Justice and Institutions, the term ‘Global Approaches to Punishment’ refers to the legal, political and social mechanisms employed to hold people to account for activities committed before, during and sometimes after formal periods of conflict or governmental rule, particularly those acts that involved abuses of human rights through atrocities such as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
