    Starting from the data collected by Tobia R. Toscano on Leonhardt Kurtz in his 1992 edition of the Descrittione dei luoghi antiqui di Napoli e del suo amenissimo distretto (Naples, 1549) dedicated by Benedetto Di Falco to Kurtz, this paper reconstructs a more complete biography of this patron from the Germanic Alps who spent a long time in Italy, especially in Naples. Thus are established: the beginnings of his career, in the service of the bank of the Fugger -when he seconded his brother Sebastian Kurtz, whose footsteps he imitates also in order to achieve social growth-; his role, starting from 1544, in the perception of the Neapolitan rents Ferdinand of Austria had conceded to the Fuggers; his probable liaison with the Neapolitan poet Laura Terracina; his literary patronage between 1548 and 1549, more important than previously thought; his heraldic weapons; his impresa, reported by Lodovico Domenichi; the probably tridentine meaning of his "conversion"; his entering the Order of Malta, in fall 1548; the intercession of his brother Sebastian with Granvelle to obtain the commandery of the Order at Worms; his death, in 1555; his portrait.

Toscano sur Leonhardt Kurtz dans son édition de 1992 de la Descrittione de i luoghi antiqui di Napoli e del suo amenis- simo distretto (Naples, 1549) que Benedetto Di Falco avait dédiée à Kurtz, l'article reconstruit une biographie plus complète de ce mécène originaire des Alpes ger- maniques qui séjourna longuement en Italie, et notamment à Naples. Sont ainsi établis: les débuts de sa carrière, au service de la banque des Fugger -exercice dans lequel il seconde initialement son frère Sebastian Kurtz, dont il imite par ailleurs les efforts pour parvenir à s'élever socialement-; son rôle, à partir de 1544, dans la perception des rentes napolitaines de Ferdinand d'Autriche concédées aux Fugger; sa probable liaison avec la poétesse napolitaine Laura Terracina; son mécénat litté- raire entre 1548 et 1549, plus important encore qu'on ne le pensait; ses armes hé- raldiques; son impresa, rapportée par Lodovico Domenichi; le sens probablement tridentin de sa «conversion»; son admission dans l'Ordre de Malte, à l'automne 1548; l'intercession de son frère Sebastian auprès de Granvelle, en avril 1554, pour lui obtenir la commanderie de l'Ordre à Worms; sa mort, en 1555; son portrait.
