Resumen de Una revisión de más de diez años de literatura de investigación en torno al concepto de “grit”

En este artículo se realizó una revisión de la literatura empírica disponible hasta el momento acerca del grit, un concepto introducido por Angela Duckworth en 2007 referido a la perseverancia y la pasión por metas a largo plazo. Se examina el origen del concepto, las posibles variaciones en función de la edad y del sexo, el desarrollo de la Escala Grit y sus propiedades psicométricas; asimismo, se contemplan los elementos comunes y diferenciadores entre el grit y otras variables no-cognitivas usualmente asociadas a esta noción (responsabilidad, resistencia, autocontrol y resiliencia), así como los resultados encontrados en investigaciones que evalúan el valor predictivo de estas variables para el rendimiento académico y el éxito. Se plantearon algunas limitaciones encontradas en la investigación acerca del grit y posibles medidas a tomar para generar un cuerpo de conocimiento sólido alrededor de esta variable.

The empirical literature available so far about grit, a concept introduced by Angela Duckworth in 2007, understood as perseverance and passion for long-term goals, is reviewed. The origin of the concept is examined, as well as the possible variations depending on the age and sex. Also the development of the Grit Scale and its psychometric properties.
Likewise, the common and differentiating elements between grit and other non-cognitive variables usually associated with this notion (responsibility, resistance, self-control and resilience) are considered, as well as the results found in research that evaluates the predictive value of these variables for the academic performance and success. Some limitations found in the research on grit and possible measures to be taken to generate a solid body of knowledge around this variable are raised.
