    Al recordar a san Juan Pablo II en el centenario de su nacimiento no se trata de hacer un ejercicio de memoria sino de interpretar una herencia viva que está presente entre nosotros. Su herencia nos pide saber extraer toda la vida que contiene. Su legado tiene un claro sentido sapiencial que connota una convicción interior y se convierte en una misión. Se podría resumir la aportación profunda de su propuesta desde la impronta bíblica de la verdad: propone la verdad como luz, no como una sentencia que se afirma, una misma luz ilumina a todos los hombres. Por eso, la perspectiva de san Juan Pablo II tiene la fuerza de la novedad que nace de dentro y que es capaz de “inventar” ante las nuevas situaciones. Su experiencia Conciliar había sido decisiva en ese punto y le hacía ver que debía “volver a las fuentes” como principio permanente de renovación eclesial. Entendió con toda claridad que la cuestión de fondo era la verdad, y que la auténtica fidelidad al Evangelio consiste en sacar de él ese tesoro de novedad en respuesta a los acontecimientos históricos que nos toca vivir.

    Remembering St John Paul II in the centenary of his birth is not just about bringing him back to our memories, but it is about interpreting a living heri-tage that is present among us. We need to know how to extract all the life out of the inheritance he left us. His legacy has a clear sense of wisdom that advocates an inner conviction and becomes a mission. The profound contribution of his proposal could be summarized from the biblical imprint of truth: he proposes the truth as light, not as a statement that is affirmed, and that same light illuminates all people. For this reason, the perspective of Saint John Paul II has a novel strength that comes from within and that is capable of “reinventing” in the face of new situations. His experi-ence at the Council had been decisive in that point and made him see that he should "go back to the sources" as a permanent principle of ecclesial renewal. He under-stood clearly that the underlying question was Truth, and that authentic fidelity to the Gospel consists in drawing out of it that treasure of novelty in response to the historical events that we have to live
