Resumen de Capri e il mito dell'architettura tra Ottocento e Novecento

During the 19th and 20th centuries Capri becomes an unquestionable myth for national and international tourism and this makes the island a favorite experimental field for architecture; this phenomenon occurs also thanks to the specific interest of many European architects, such as Schinkel and Hoffmann, and avant-garde movements - first of all the Futurism. In the try to find the right form to express the spirit of the island, many “seasons” and different theories come in succession: at first we find orientalist houses, in order to increase the exotic character; then classical villas, in connection with the unavoidable presence of archaeological ruins; and then even eclectic hotels in the line of French taste, just to satisfy the needs of cosmopolitan customers; even vernacular style buildings, which correspond to one of the most interesting and famous expression of the rural architecture; and finally rationalist and futurist houses, in order to underline the fascist modernization of the island. On the base of a wide archive documentation, the paper shows a general view of this problematic, starting from the less known cases up to the most famous ones, such as Villa Malaparte, which have been rarely considered in the historical context of the various island architecture.

Tra Ottocento e Novecento, l’affermazione di Capri come mito assoluto del turismo nazionale e internazionale rende l’isola un campo di sperimentazione architettonica privilegiato, anche grazie al particolare interesse nutrito per essa da architetti europei del calibro di Schinkel e Hoffmann, da movimenti artistici e d’avanguardia, primo fra tutti il futurismo. Varie stagioni e varie ipotesi si succedono, nel tentativo di trovare una linea espressiva adeguata a interepretare l’isola: dapprima residenze orientaliste, per accrescerne il valore di luogo esotico, poi ville classiche in omaggio all’imprescindibile presenza dell’archeologia, alberghi in linee eclettismi francesizzanti, in omaggio ad un pubblico cosmopolita, costruzioni vernacolari, per privilegiare una delle linee più interessanti e note dell’architettura “spontanea”, case razionaliste e futuriste, per sottolineare la modernizzazione fascista dell’isola. Sulla base di un’ampia documentazione archivistica, il contributo fornisce un panormana complessivo, a partire da casi meno noti per finire a esempi notissimi, come villa Malaparte, quasi mai letti nel complessivo sviluppo dell’architettura isolana.
