El pasado 3 de mayo se celebró el vigésimo primer aniversario del Día Mundial de la Libertad de Prensa. Los relatores de la ONU en materia de Derechos Humanos, en su informe de este año, han resaltado el importante papel que juega la libertad de expresión para promover el desarrollo. Y es que el ejercicio de esta libertad, como el de otros derechos fundamentales, es un indicador clave para conocer el estado de una democracia y la madurez de su sociedad. Desde el IEEE destaca el seguimiento que realizaba Miguel Angel Serrano sobre el tema y la situación en algunas regiones del mundo.

The past May 3rd was celebrated the twenty-first anniversary of the World Press Freedom Day. The rapporteurs of the UN in the field of Human Rights, in the report of this year, have highlighted the important role played by the freedom of expression to promote development. This freedom, like other fundamental rights, is a key indicator to know the “health” of a democracy and the maturity of their society. It is important the work made by Miguel Angel Serrano, analyst of the IEEE, on this topic and about the situation in some regions of the world.
