    Los fundamentos de la legitimidad en el reino saudí residen en un entramado bastante más complejo que el sugerido por la mera retroalimentación entre religión y Estado. En la construcción de tal andamiaje, no solo juegan un papel determinante las consabidas esferas de apoyo doméstico, sino también el sostén externo tradicionalmente proporcionado por EE.UU. Por este motivo, resulta lógico preguntarse cuál es el estado actual de las relaciones bilaterales teniendo en cuenta que, en los últimos meses, se han producido fricciones de cierta entidad. Tras ello, se aborda la estrategia e instrumentos concretos con los que el Estado saudí ha logrado contener la marea provocada por las revueltas árabes. El análisis concluye con una exploración de tendencias por lo que a la sucesión del liderazgo saudí en el medio/largo plazo se refiere.

    The foundations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reside in a far more complex scheme than that suggested by the mere feedback between religion and state. In the construction of that framework play an important role not only the well-known areas of domestic support, but also the external backing provided by the U.S. For this reason, it is logical to wonder about the current state of their bilateral relations, taking into account that there have been frictions of a considerable magnitude. After that, the text addresses the strategy and concrete tools with which the Saudi State has succeeded to contain the tide caused by the Arab uprisings. The analysis concludes with the exploration of trends regarding the succession of the Saudi leadership in the medium/long term.
