En este ensayo se propone rescatar memorias e interpretar ideas clave del itinerario de la Teología Wesleyana en América Latina y el Caribe y del movimiento Metodista en América Latina —desde una mirada histórico-teológica—. La interacción de la teología wesleyana con la teología latinoamericana de la liberación y el movimiento ecuménico produjo, en el siglo XX y en dos etapas distintas, continuas rupturas en la interpretación de la tradición wesleyana (décadas ‘60 y ‘70). Desde la década de los ‘80 se generó un nuevo proceso de resignificación en la teología wesleyana, que produjo una nueva síntesis teológico-misionera hacia principios del siglo XXI.

In this essay it is proposed to rescue memories and interpret key ideas of the Wesleyan Theology itinerary in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Methodist movement in Latin America —from a historical-theological view. The interaction of the Wesleyan Theology with the Latin American Theology of Liberation and the Ecumenical Movement produced, in the twentieth century and in two different stages, continuous ruptures in the interpretation of the Wesleyan tradition (decades 60 and 70). Since the eighties, it generated a process of resignification of the Wesleyan Theology, and this produced a new theological-missionary synthesis —toward the beginning of the 21st century.
