• Hospitals and acute care physicians have an important role in diagnosing and treating opioid use disorder (OUD). Medications for OUD is the cornerstone of care for persons with OUD and should be promptly initiated in acute and primary health care settings.Reducing pain, withdrawal, and stigma for persons with OUD is essential for a therapeutic hospital experience and promotes engagement in care.
