The article offers a succinct historical overview, starting from the first appearance of Philip Melanchthon in the Orthodox world, with the sending of his Confessions to the Patriarch Josaphat II of Constantinople. Some of the stages of this dialogue are analysed: the opposition of the Synods to reformed doctrine, the reply given by Manual de Dositeu of Jerusalem in the 17th c., then the second attempt at dialogue between the Reformers and the Orthodox when present-day Greece was created. Finally, the 20th c. also saw another meeting between the two Christian confessions in the ecumenical context that has since been growing stronger. The motivation behind a meeting in this cen-tury is the positive attitude towards dialogue and the mutual knowledge that makes bridges for dialogue possible. The article goes on to discuss four attempts at reform in Greek ecclesiastical life, building on their relationship with the Western Churches, with varying degrees of acceptance on the part of the faithful.
