Resumen de PETE:: A Portable Environment for Educational Software Tools
This article explains the concept of a portable educational tools environment (PETE), one of the main concepts in the DELTA exploratory phase. The need for PETE arises due to the diverse, incompatible nature of different tools and methods used for the design, development and use of courseware in Europe. The aim of PETE will be to provide a common platform for all types of learning technology tools, allowing them to share common information and work together. As well as supporting current open‐learning practices, PETE will also have to accommodate new and emerging technologies based on digital multimedia and broad band wide‐area communications.
The article reviews current thinking about requirements placed on PETE by the learning systems industry, and how these requirements will be satisfied in an eventual design for PETE.
