Como parte de los productos culturales contemporáneos y el uso de las tecnologías digitales, los videojuegos han demostrado poseer una vasta cantidad de elementos visuales, narrativos, técnicos, psicológicos y fenomenológicos disponibles para ser sometidos a diversos cuestionamientos.
Identificado esto, tomamos la figura del “monstruo” en el género de survival horror como objeto de análisis, observando sus particularidades físicas bajo la hipótesis de que dicha criatura cumple sus objetivos psico-sensoriales en el usuario, al encontrarse en un espacio liminal, donde lo antropomorfo, aquello que nos resulta de antemano familiar es transgredido y fusionado, generando un reconocimiento parcial del personaje, que nos lleva al mismo tiempo hacia el temor y la fascinación
As part of contemporary cultural products and the use of digital technologies, video games have been shown to have a great amount of visual elements, narrative, technical, psychological and phenomenological available to be subjected to different kind of investigations. Having said this, we take the figure of the monster in survival horror video games as the analysis object through observing their physical peculiarities under the assumption that the creature in a liminal space meets its psycho-sensory targets in the user’s mind: its anthropomorphic characteristics, which are beforehand familiar to us, are transgressed and fused provoking a partial character’s recognition that takes us to feel fear and fascination at the same time
