“Ego magister Raymundus Lul catalanus”: Entorn a la identitat de Ramon Llull a l’Edat mitjana

    • Ramon Llull is presented as a “Catalan” and was also known in this way in the Middle Ages. This is due to three factors. Firstly, the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Majorca were called like this to distinguish them from other segregated groups (slaves, freedmen, Jews, Muslims, converts) due to their mostly Catalan backgrounds. Secondly, they were also perceived and identified in this way outside the Kingdom. And finally, in assuming this identity, the Blessed Ramon Llull must have understood that his cultural and missionary work outside the Crown of Aragon had to be done as a Catalan
