Resumen de COVID-19, una radiografía de la pandemia

En la Nochevieja pasada, el mundo descubría la existencia de «un virus» que por entonces comenzaba a causar estragos en China. Poco se sabía de este nuevo patógeno que al igual que el SARS1 o la gripe aviar (H5N12) nacía en lo más profundo del gigante asiático. Fueron pocos los que pensaron que esta epidemia —ahora pandemia— alcanzaría nuestros territorios, pero muchos menos aún se aventuraron a imaginar que iba a ser capaz de parar lo que hasta ahora parecía imparable: la globalización. Hoy en día la COVID-19 afecta a más de 3 millones de personas repartidas en 185 Estados, y lo que es más grave, se ha cobrado la vida de más de 200.000 personas.
Este trabajo pretender recoger y analizar la información que se ha ido publicando por la OMS, por medios de comunicación, por gobiernos y por científicos sobre el «coronavirus» con el único objetivo de aportar cierta luz a una situación que, por el momento, sigue siendo tenebrosa. El trabajo se va a estructurar de la siguiente manera. En primer lugar, se hará una breve descripción de la COVID-19 y sus semejanzas con otros patógenos similares como el SARS, la gripe aviar o el MERS. A continuación, se hará una radiografía de su expansión para identificar cuáles han sido los principales focos de propagación de este. En tercer lugar, se analizarán las medidas adoptadas para su contención, diferenciando entre los distintos modelos3. Por último, se buscarán identificar las consecuencias que está teniendo sobre el sistema internacional y las secuelas que nos puede dejar en el futuro como sociedad internacional.

Last New Year's Eve the world discovered the existence of ‘a virus’ that was beginning to wreak havoc in China. Little was known about this new pathogen which, like SARS or the Avian Influenza (H5N1), was being born deep within the Asian giant. Few people thought that this epidemic -now a pandemic- would reach our territories, but even fewer ventured to imagine that it would be able to stop what until now seemed unstoppable:
globalization. Today COVID-19 affects more than 3 million people in 185 states, and what is even more serious is that it has claimed the lives of more than 200,000 people.
This work aims to collect and analyse the information that has been published by the WHO, by the media, by governments and by scientists on the "coronavirus" with the sole aim of shedding some light on a situation that, for the moment, remains gloomy.
The work will be structured as follows. First, a brief description of COVID-19 and its similarities with other similar pathogens such as SARS, avian influenza or MERS will be made. Next, an x-ray of its expansion will be made to identify the main sources of its spread. Thirdly, the measures adopted will be analysed for their containment, differentiating between the different models. Finally, we will seek to identify the consequences that it is having on the international system and the consequences that it may have in the future as an international society
