    Desde los años noventa han proliferado los estudios sobre el libro de artista. Moeglin-Delcroix, una de la primeras teóricas, situó el origen de este género en la obra de Edward Ruscha Twentysix Gasoline Stations, de 1963, y desde entonces se ha repetido en gran parte de la literatura crítica. Este artículo cuestiona la exactitud de esta afirmación y demuestra el papel primordial de Dieter Roth en el nacimiento del libro de artista contemporáneo.

    Lots of studies have proliferated about artist's books since the 90's. Moeglin-Delcroix, one of the first theorists, established the origin of this genre in the works of Edward Ruscha Twentysix Gasoline Stations, 1963. Since then, it has been repeated in much of the reviews. This article questions the accuracy of this statement and demonstrates the crucial role of Dieter Roth in the start of contemporary artist’s books.
