El principio de justicia, personificado en la maat, era uno de los pilares fundamentales del cosmos egipcio. No obstante, como en cualquier otra civilización, también aquí podemos encontrar ejemplos donde esta justicia se ve empañada por prácticas como el soborno o la prevaricación, que son especialmente notables durante el Reino Nuevo. Este artículo pretende realizar un repaso por los principales casos que ocurrieron en este periodo, poniendo énfasis en fuentes como el Edicto de Horemheb y la documentación relativa a la Conjura del Harén y a los juicios de los ladrones de tumbas durante la dinastía XX.
The principle of justice, personified in the maat, was one of the main pillars in the Egyptian cosmos. However, like in any other civilization, we may find here too cases where this justice is tarnished by practices like bribery or prevarication, which are especially note worthy during the New Kingdom. This paper aims at reviewing the main cases that took place in this period, emphasizing in sources like Horemheb’s Edict and the documentation related to the Harem’s Conspiracy and the trials of the tomb robberies in the 20th Dynasty.
