En la «Introducción» de El conflicto de las facultades, Kant expone el modo en que tiene que organizarse la Universidad con vistas a satisfacer el legítimo interés del Estado, que no es otro que el de “gobernar”. En cierta manera, podría considerarse que, en éste y otros textos, Kant ensaya la respuesta a la pregunta, nunca formulada explícitamente en ninguno, ‘¿qué significa “gobernar”?’ La respuesta va a estar en la crítica de la erudición, un conocimiento a medio camino entre el saber y la virtud.

In the «Introduction» of The conflict of the faculties, Kant exposes the way in which the University has to be organized in order to satisfy the legitimate interest of the State, which is none other than that of “governing”. In a way, it could be considered that, in this and other texts, Kant rehearses the answer to the question, never explicitly formulated in any, 'what does "govern" mean? The answer will be in the critique of scholarship, a knowledge halfway between knowledge and virtue.
