La identificación tradicional de Júpiter Óptimo Máximo como representante último del poder en el mundo romano fue especialmente potenciada por la propaganda imperial, que utilizará la vinculación del gobernante con la deidad como una de las piezas clave de su legitimidad. Augusto, como fundador del sistema imperial, tendrá una especial relevancia a la hora de estudiar esta paulatina equiparación del gobernante con la divinidad a través de sus símbolos, convirtiéndose en modelo a seguir por parte de sus sucesores. Vespasiano, llegado al poder tras una profunda crisis motivada por las guerras civiles del 69, tomará la propaganda augústea como vía de justificación de un poder alcanzado por las armas. Los diferentes canales de propaganda, como la iconografía o los rumores recogidos por las fuentes clásicas, se convierten, por tanto, en un medio de estudio de este lenguaje simbólico del poder en el mundo romano, permitiéndonos analizar hasta que punto Augusto sirve de modelo al fundador de la dinastía Flavia.

The traditional identification of Iuppiter Optimus Maximus as the main representative of the power in the roman world was especially powered by the imperial propaganda, which used the link of the ruler with the deity as the key element of is legitimation. August, as the founder of the imperial system, has an especial relevance when we study the gradual comparison of the ruler with the divinity through his symbols, being turned into a model to his successors. Vespasian, who rose to the power after the deep crisis provoked by the civil wars of the year 69, used the augustean propaganda as a way of legitimation of his power, which was won through the use of the force. The different media of propaganda, as iconography or the rumours recorded by the classical literary sources, change into a way of study of the symbolic language of the power in the roman world, allowing us to analyze to what extend Augustus was a model for the founder of the Flavian dynasty
