    La desintegración de las estructuras administrativas romanas durante la fase final del Imperio de Occidente favorecerá la aparición y consolidación de la figura del obispo como líder y representante de su ciudad. Pero ello no debe contemplarse, entre los siglos IV-V, como la incorporación del carácter eclesiástico en las estructuras gubernativas del Estado.

    Lo que en estos convulsos momentos más se valora, tanto por las comunidades cívicas como por las propias clases dirigentes, entre aquellos que aspiran al cargo episcopal se relaciona con cualidades y atributos personales que no suelen situarse en la órbita de la espiritualidad, sino en el pragmatismo. La incorporación oficial de los obispos a las estructuras administrativas estatales se realizará paulatinamente, consolidándose en el siglo VI, momento que también representa, para el caso hispano, el apogeo de la monumentalización de los grupos episcopales, tal como permiten corroborar las intervenciones arqueológicas de algunos centros urbanos

    The disbandment of the administrative Roman structures during the final phase of the Western Empire will allow the appearance and consolidation of the figure of the bishop as OHDGHUDQGUHSUHVHQWDWLYHRIKLVFLW\7KLVGRHVQ¶WPHDQLQ,9-V centuries, the incorporation of the ecclesiastic character in the governmental structures of the State. What for these convulsed moments more is valued, both for the civic communities and for the own leader classes, between those who aspire to the Episcopal see, relates to qualities and personal attributes that not always concern to spiritual or religious aspects but to pragmatism. The official incorporation of the bishops to the administrative state structures will be realized gradually, being consolidated in the 6th century, corresponding to the monumental development of the Episcopal groups in Hispania, as several archaeological interventions allow us to corroborate
