Resumen de Albert Serra's Digital Singularity

Teresa M. Vilarós

  • Albert Serra’s oeuvre is a master exercise intertwined with digital technology and the arts as a whole. His films meticulously embody the symbiosis of the word techné expressed by the ancient Greeks, where no differentiation was made between art and craft. Carefully crafted within the realm of digital, Serra’s te-chnéintimately explores cinema’s digital capabilities within arts’ own intrinsic trans-fluidity: from literature, music, painting, to cinema, and from cinema to the exhibit site, his slow-moving world of images quietly descends upon us, engaging all senses in an awe-inspiring experience. This essay, while referencing various films by Albert Serra, pays particular attention to his film installation La singularitat (Singularity): an exploration of cinema as digital art, cinema as (or in) painting, and cinema as a cinema of exposure and of subtraction
