Presencia e importancia de Jaén en la guerra de la independencia (1808-1814)

    El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo el señalar la relevancia de Jaén, y de toda la Región andaluza, en el esfuerzo común del pueblo español para luchar contra la invasión del territorio peninsular por parte de las tropas de Napoleón Bonaparte, quien, al socaire de los pactos o tratados de San Ildefonso, en particular del tercero de estos, había comenzado a introducir en suelo portugués primero, pero después ya en suelo español, un numerosísimo contingente militar, al mando supremo del Mariscal Joaquín Murat, su cuñado, con el objetivo originario de oponerse a Gran Bretaña, pero que derivaría posteriormente en una real invasión militar, tendente a acabar con el reinado de los Borbones en España y sus territorios ultramarinos –también de Portugal– y llevar a cabo un cambio sustancial en el territorio peninsular, alterando los regímenes políticos allí existentes.

    Andalucía y Jaén, son escenarios de la Batalla de Bailén, donde por primera vez se derrotará a los imparables ejércitos napoleónicos, y el pueblo jiennense dará un ejemplo de patriotismo y de altas virtudes cívicas, en defensa de su patria, de su rey y de sus instituciones tradicionales, y prestará una valiosa ayuda a las tropas de Castaños en aquella memorable batalla.

    The objective of this work is to point out the importance of Jaén, and of the entire Andalusian Region, in the common effort of the Spanish people to fight against the invasion of the peninsular territory by the troops of Napoleón Bonaparte, who, under the influence of the pacts or treaties of San Ildefonso, in particular of the third of these, had begun to introduce on Portuguese soil first, but then on Spanish soil, a very large military contingent, under the supreme command of Marshal Joaquín Murat, his brother-in-law, with the original objective of opposing Great Britain, but which would later result in a real military invasion, tending to end the reign of the Bourbons in Spain and its overseas territories - also of Portugal - and carry out a substantial change in the peninsular territory, altering the political regimes there.

    Andalucía and Jaén, are stages of the Battle of Bailén, where for the first time the unstoppable Napoleonic armies will be defeated, and the people of Jaén will give an example of patriotism and high civic virtues, in defense of their homeland, their king and its traditional institutions, and will provide valuable assistance to the troops of Castaños in that memorable battle.
